Monte Toboggan Rides

A thrilling descent in two-seat toboggans shaped like huge wicker baskets on two wooden runners previously greased with tallow. They are steered by two drivers in traditional dress who use their boots as breaks.

The high-speed journey from Monte to Funchal takes about 10 minutes.
