Jardim do Almirante Reis

Area: 12,940 square metres

This garden was set up in 2001 in an area that once served as a football pitch and car park.  It is part of the rehabilitation project of the historic quarter of Santa Maria Maior.

It is a calm and peaceful place and a much sought-for location, by locals and tourists alike, for strolling around and sunbathing. On the west end of the garden is the station for the Monte cable car.

There are two boats on display. One took passengers from the city’s pier to ships and ocean liners anchored off Funchal before the harbor was constructed, and the other served as backup boat for flying boats.
