Quinta do Palheiro Ferreiro

Area: 140,000 square metres

It is the largest quinta in Madeira and was built in 1804 by João Carvalhal Esmeraldo, the first Count of Carvalhal. It is currently owned by the Blandy family who has introduced several new flower species in the estate.

You will be able to enjoy unequalled and unobstructed views of Funchal and admire its vast lawns, interspersed with small and tall trees, shrubbery, herbaceous plants, hedges and ponds inhabited by frogs and water lilies.

In addition to a wide variety of endemic and exotic species, there is a stunning rose garden, full of colour and liveliness, to the east of the estate’s small chapel.

This wonderful setting includes a country-house hotel – Casa Velha do Palheiro – and a golf course.
