Madeira Story Centre - History and Culture of Madeira

The centre opened in 2005 and is situated in the old part of town. It gives visitors a panoramic view over the History of the island using playful and interactive displays. The main themes of the exhibition are presented in a chronological sequence and include the following topics: Volcanic Beginnings; Founding Legends, Discovering Madeira, Turmoil and Trade; Strategic Isle; Madeira Flourishes; After the «Age of Sail»; Explore Madeira.

The Madeira Story Centre also offers a terrace with a scenic view, a café and a shop with exclusive souvenirs.
