The Monument of João Gonçalves Zarco

Presumably the best known statue in Funchal, it was erected as a tribute to João Gonçalves Zarco, the great navigator and discoverer of Madeira. It was inaugurated in 1934 at the intersection of Avenida Zarco with Avenida Arriaga.
