Electricity Museum

Commonly know as “Casa da Luz” (The House of Light), Museu de Electricidade da Madeira is housed at the former thermal power plant of Funchal. There is a permanent exhibition about the different types of lighting used in Funchal together with the urban furniture that is associated with it, from oil burners to present-day street lamps; the history of the archipelago’s electrification; primary and renewable sources of energy, etc.

There is also an area devoted to science and technology with interactive equipment and multimedia didactic software.
